Troubleshooting

Start with the phone role and permissions

1. Confirm Elder Dialler is the default phone app. Re-select it in Android settings if another app has taken the role.
2. Review the permission needed for the task. Calling, Contacts and notifications are requested when required.
3. Confirm ordinary mobile calls work. Check the SIM, service, account and carrier outside Elder Dialler.
4. Change one setting at a time. Repeat a safe test before changing anything else.

A saved caller is rejected

Check explicit blocking, the saved number and whether Safe Call Mode is intended. Safe Call Mode matches visible Contacts using formatted and canonical candidates. If Contacts access is unavailable it should fail open rather than reject every caller.

A speed-dial position is empty or incorrect

In Normal Mode, review the 6, 8 or 10-position layout and the stored contact assignment. Enable Show + for empty speed dials when you need an empty-position action. Elder Mode always hides empty positions. CLEAR removes the assignment but does not delete the Android contact.

A missed-call badge looks wrong

Badges are shared across Main, Contacts and Dial Pad navigation and can show multi-digit counts. Open Elder Dialler call history to acknowledge the displayed range; a newer concurrent missed call should remain unseen. An assigned speed dial may also show a per-number marker.

Elder Mode did not stay enabled

Elder Mode becomes active only after Android's screen-pinning prompt is accepted. If the prompt is declined, Elder Dialler reconciles the result and turns the preference off. Enable it again when the phone user is ready.

The Elder Mode status header is incomplete

The header appears only while Android lock-task mode is active. Android may withhold cellular signal information; Elder Dialler does not invent bars. There is no special Wi-Fi Calling icon. Check Android connectivity and permissions before treating an omitted item as a fault.

The phone needs to leave Elder Mode

Hold the Main-screen clock for five seconds for exit help or use Android's normal unpin action for that phone. The required buttons or gestures vary by device and navigation mode.

SOS does not call the expected person

Check the SOS Button, assigned personal contacts and their order. Missing contacts are skipped. For Auto SOS, confirm Disabled/10/15/20/30/45 seconds and use STOP to end continuation. Never use an emergency-service number for testing.
